Advanced features such as solar surplus charging, home battery integration, and dynamic load balancing (DLB) require additional compatible energy meters and energy management systems. PowerHub is not required for standard EV charging.

Installation & Operating Environment

Can I install EVFlow AC myself?

No. Installation and commissioning must be carried out by a certified, licensed electrician.

EVFlow AC is a stationary Mode 3 AC charging station. Prior to installation, the electrician must evaluate your electrical panel capacity, cabling cross-sections, earthing/grounding system, and protective switchgear.

What are the benefits of installing EVFlow AC with PowerHub?

When paired with a compatible and properly configured PowerHub system, EVFlow AC simplifies electrical connection and installation via an integrated CEE industrial socket interface. The installer must verify cable specifications, connector ratings, and upstream protective device coordination.

What are the electrical wiring requirements for installation?

EVFlow AC requires a dedicated AC branch circuit, reliable earthing/grounding, and properly sized upstream circuit protection matching the charger model.

A qualified electrician must determine cable cross-sections and miniature circuit breaker (MCB) ratings based on output power, cable run distance, installation routing, and local wiring standards.

Is an external residual current device (RCD) required if EVFlow AC already has built-in residual current detection?

Yes. EVFlow AC integrates 30 mA AC and 6 mA DC residual current monitoring, including a 6 mA DC RDC-DD compliant with IEC 62955. An upstream Type A 30 mA residual current device (RCD) or equivalent protection is still required. The final protective scheme must be determined by a qualified electrician in accordance with local national standards.

Can I use extension cords, adapters, or conversion plugs?

No. Always use charging cables and connections certified for and compatible with both the charger and the vehicle. Never use extension leads, conversion plugs, or third-party adapters.

Can EVFlow AC be installed outdoors?

Yes, provided the installation is carried out correctly and all cable entry points are properly sealed. The tethered cable version carries an IP65 protection rating, while the Type 2 and T2S socket versions are rated IP55. All versions feature IK10 impact resistance. EVFlow AC must not be submerged in water or cleaned with high-pressure power washers.

Install and operate the charging station strictly within these specified environmental parameters.

What are the grid connection requirements for installing EVFlow AC in Germany?

Private EV charging facilities connected to the low-voltage grid with an electrical connection capacity exceeding 4.2 kW are subject to controllable consumption device regulations under Section 14a of the German Energy Industry Act (EnWG) if commissioned on or after January 1, 2024. The installer must confirm registration procedures, control hardware, and power modulation requirements with the local distribution system operator (DSO/VNB). Control interfaces must be configured according to EVFlow AC communication capabilities.

Daily Operation

What methods are available to start charging?

Zendure App, RFID card, and Plug & Play mode: When Plug & Play is enabled, charging begins automatically as soon as the connector is plugged in. Initial setup, commissioning, and authentication management must be completed via the Zendure App. An RFID card is included in the package.

How do I prevent unauthorized use of my charging station?

You can set authentication to RFID card or App authorization before a charging session can start. For wallboxes installed in shared driveways, carports, or open parking areas, configure authentication access controls to ensure security. Restrict Plug & Play mode in public or accessible locations.

Why is the actual charging power lower than the rated power (e.g., only 3.68 kW on a 7.4 kW charger)?

Actual charging speed depends on multiple variables, including the vehicle's onboard charger (OBC) rating, cable phase capacity, grid supply limits, and charging settings. Dynamic Load Balancing (DLB) or thermal foldback protection can also dynamically modulate charging current. For instance, on a single-phase 230 V supply limited to 16 A, maximum power will be approximately 3.68 kW regardless of the wallbox's 7.4 kW maximum rating.

Will a 22 kW charging station charge my EV faster if the car only supports 11 kW AC charging?

No. Charging power is governed by the vehicle's onboard charger (OBC) maximum input capacity. If your electric vehicle supports up to 11 kW AC, connecting to a 22 kW station will still cap the charging rate at 11 kW. Environmental and battery management system (BMS) conditions may also modulate real-time charging speed.

How long does it take to fully charge an electric vehicle?

Charging time can be calculated using: Estimated Time = Energy Required (kWh) ÷ Actual Charging Power (kW). For example, adding 40 kWh of battery energy at a continuous 11 kW output theoretically takes around 3.6 hours. Actual durations vary based on charging efficiency losses, temperature, and battery management power tapering.

Will my previous charging schedules, tariff rules, and solar modes continue to operate after adding EVFlow AC to HEMS?

No. Once EVFlow AC is managed within HEMS, standalone wallbox scheduling modes are superseded. HEMS takes over charge scheduling to coordinate with the home's total energy optimization strategy. You can always initiate an immediate full-speed session by enabling Fast Charging Mode from the charger management interface.

Why doesn't the charging mode switch immediately when changed during an active session?

Charging mode adjustments take effect starting with the subsequent charging session. Active, ongoing sessions will complete under their initial parameters to maintain electrical stability and vehicle communication safety.

Why does solar surplus charging occasionally draw electricity from the grid?

This occurs when Hybrid Mode is enabled by default. If surplus solar production falls below the charger's minimum starting threshold of 1.4 kW, the system supplements minimal power from the grid to maintain charging without discarding available solar output. Once solar surplus meets or exceeds 1.4 kW, charging runs on 100% solar energy.

Can I use solar surplus charging without CT clamp meters?

No. Solar surplus charging relies on a paired CT meter or compatible smart energy meter installed at the main grid connection point to read real-time feed-in power. Without continuous grid exchange data, surplus-based charging cannot function.

Why is the MQTT configuration option disabled when integrating with Home Assistant?

MQTT settings become inactive under two circumstances: ① The charging station is connected solely via Bluetooth. ② The charger has already been linked to and synchronized with the HEMS ecosystem.

Why do my Tesla and wallbox appear as two separate loads on the HEMS dashboard? How do I combine them?

This happens because the vehicle has not yet been paired with the charging point. Navigate to Charger Settings → Link Vehicle and select your Tesla. Once paired, the HEMS main screen will consolidate the data under the wallbox load card, preventing duplicate load entries.

What does "Usage Plan" mean for EVFlow AC in HEMS? Does charging start immediately at the schedule's start time?

A Usage Plan defines the permissible charging time window. During this defined window, HEMS intelligently algorithms determine the most cost-effective intervals based on dynamic power pricing and solar forecasts, rather than blindly drawing power at the immediate start of the schedule.

Solar Energy & Smart Energy Management

What hardware is required for solar surplus charging?

Solar surplus charging requires a photovoltaic (PV) generation system, EVFlow AC, and a compatible smart energy meter or CT clamp sensor kit installed at the grid connection point. The energy management system must be fully paired. A home battery storage system is optional, but compatible metering hardware is mandatory.

Which smart meters and CT sensors are supported?

Supported metering hardware includes: Zendure Single-Phase CT, Zendure Three-Phase CT, Shelly Pro 3EM, Shelly 3EM, and Shelly EM. Connection protocols differ by model; each device must be wired and paired per its technical specifications.

Can I charge my EV during cloudy weather or when solar production is insufficient?

Yes, depending on your selected charging mode. In Pure Solar Surplus Mode, charging will pause whenever excess solar drops below the vehicle's minimum charging threshold. If Grid Assist / Hybrid Mode is turned on, the system pulls supplementary power from the grid to ensure continuous charging.

What are the advantages of automatic 1P/3P phase switching?

The 22 kW version supports automatic 1-phase/3-phase switching to maximize solar self-consumption. 1P charging allows charging to commence with as little as ~1.38 kW of solar surplus (230 V, 6 A minimum per phase). 3P charging engages when solar generation exceeds ~4.14 kW for high-speed charging. Switching behavior is subject to vehicle onboard charger compatibility and system parameters.

Can EVFlow AC schedule charging based on solar production forecasts?

Yes. When integrated with Zendure HEMS 2.0, the system predicts solar output based on weather forecasts and schedules charging sessions to prioritize solar energy utilization. Real-time domestic consumption and vehicle connection status will dynamically adjust the final schedule.

How do dynamic electricity tariffs reduce EV charging costs?

By binding a supported utility provider and dynamic tariff plan inside the Zendure App, you can set a target electricity price threshold in HEMS. The system automatically shifts charging cycles into negative or low-price spot-market hours. Regional tariff support depends on national utility compatibility.

How does Dynamic Load Balancing (DLB) work?

When EVFlow AC is paired with an approved meter and the home's main panel ampacity limit is configured, DLB monitors overall domestic energy consumption in real time. If large home appliances turn on, the wallbox automatically throttles charging current. When domestic loads subside, charging power ramps back up, preventing breaker trips and panel overload.

Can I use solar power stored during the day to charge my vehicle at night?

Yes. This requires a compatible home battery energy storage system (BESS) and configured energy management rules coordinating battery discharge with EV charging. Deliverable energy depends on battery capacity, remaining state of charge (SoC), and inverter output limits.

Can EVFlow AC charge my vehicle during a power outage?

EVFlow AC contains no internal battery storage and cannot operate independently during a grid blackout. However, if integrated into a compatible solar-plus-storage system equipped with whole-home backup or microgrid islanding functionality, charging can continue off-grid within the emergency power output limits of the inverter.

App, Connectivity & Status Indicators

What connectivity options does EVFlow AC support?

EVFlow AC supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, hardwired Ethernet LAN, and Bluetooth 5 LE. Ethernet is highly recommended in locations with weak Wi-Fi coverage (such as underground garages or standalone carports). Bluetooth handles initial commissioning and local control (~10 m range). Integrated smart home devices must share the same local network subnet.

Can EVFlow AC connect to third-party charging management backends?

Yes. EVFlow AC supports the open OCPP 1.6J protocol and provides hardware interfaces including RJ45 LAN, RS485, and dry contact digital inputs (DI). Specific software feature availability depends on backend server compatibility, firmware version, and integration parameters.

Does EVFlow AC support OTA firmware updates? What precautions should be taken?

Yes, EVFlow AC supports Over-The-Air (OTA) firmware upgrades. Flashing yellow: Firmware update package is downloading. Breathing/pulsing yellow: Firmware installation is in progress. Ensure constant power supply during updates; never disconnect power while an installation is underway.

How do I interpret the LED indicator light states?

Under normal conditions: Steady Green indicates online standby; Steady Blue indicates offline standby; Pulsing Green indicates charging online; Pulsing Blue indicates charging offline. If the light transitions from pulsing to solid, charging is paused. Yellow indicates firmware updating, while Flashing Red warns of a hardware or safety fault. A blue light indicates network disconnection, not necessarily a hardware failure.

Troubleshooting & Customer Support

What should I do if charging fails to start or the red fault LED illuminates?

Follow these diagnostic steps: 1. Confirm the charging connector is fully seated and locked. 2. Verify that authentication (RFID or App) was completed. 3. Check for active scheduling limits in the vehicle dashboard or Zendure App. 4. Verify that solar/power conditions meet the threshold of the selected mode. If the red fault LED remains lit, review the fault code in the Zendure App and contact customer support. In case of enclosure damage, cable wear, water ingress, or abnormal overheating, shut off the upstream breaker immediately and consult a qualified electrician.

How should EVFlow AC be cleaned and maintained?

Perform a visual inspection of the charging station, tethered cable, and connector pins every six months for wear, discoloration, or foreign debris. Always turn off the upstream circuit breaker prior to maintenance. Clean the exterior housing using a soft, lightly dampened cloth. Do not use high-pressure sprayers, abrasive cleaning pads, or chemical solvents.
