Festival season is upon us, with hundreds of different festivals in existence today. One of the most popular festivals, the Coachella Music and Arts Festival draws thousands of people from around the world.

With live performances at more than five stages throughout two weekends, Coachella features performances from a variety of different genres of music, of both established and new artists.

But what do you need to make sure you have the time of your life down in Indio, California? Here are festival essentials you don’t want to forget to pack for each day, plus some extra camping tips too.

Coachella Festival Essentials to Survive the Weekend

When you’re going to a festival, you need to come prepared. While festivals like Coachella do have a General Store if you forget key items that are sold at drug stores, these items can be pricey. To arrive prepared and ready to have the best time of your life, don’t forget:

  • The Festival Ticket/Wristband. If you forget your ticket in, you may not be totally out of luck, but bringing it certainly gets you in faster! Luckily there is a Will Call booth if you do forget your wristband or run into any issues.
  • Your ID. Many festivals are 18+ and require a scan of your driver’s license or identification card to get in. If you forget this, you won’t be able to get past security. Coachella is no exception.
  • Cash or Credit Card. Always come prepared with cash or your credit/debit card to a festival. Not only will you be prepared to buy anything you may have forgotten, but many festivals (including Coachella) don’t allow outside food past the festival entrance.
  • A Portable Charger. While many festivals now offer charging stations for your devices, you won’t want to miss a minute of the action. Bring a portable charger to ensure your phone battery stays charged, whether it be for taking pictures and videos, or finding your friends at the end of the night
  • A Refillable Water Bottle. Coachella allows you to bring in an empty water bottle and all festivals must have a free water refill station. While you might have to wait in line for a bit, refilling you water bottle is much cheaper than buying a new one every time you get thirsty.
  • Earplugs. With hundreds of thousands of pounds of speakers at a festival, you know it’s going to be loud. Protect your eardrums and bring a pair of earbuds, which in many cases actually make the music sound better and clearer. And if you forget, buy a pair at the fest.
  • Hand Sanitizer. Coachella has both port-a-potties, portable trailer bathrooms and real stationary bathrooms, but lines can get lengthy at all. It is not uncommon for the temporary port-a-potty sinks to run out of water before the night is over. Bring some hand sanitizer so you can keep your hands clean and stay healthy all weekend long.
  • Sunscreen. If you don’t want to look like a lobster by the time the sun goes down, it’s best to bring some sunscreen. The sun and heat is intense at the Empire Polo Grounds where Coachella is held. Your skin will thank you later.
  • Good Vibes. Festivals are a place for crowds to come together enjoy music together. Let your uniqueness shine and take care of your fellow festival-goers. Come ready to see artists you love, discover new music, and dance the weekend away.

  • Pro Camping Tips for Coachella

Coachella has the options to camp, car camp or stay off the grounds in a hotel. If you  want to be in the middle of all the action, camping or car camping is the way to go. Read on for some pro tips that will make your weekend go a lot smoother. If you’re camping, be sure to bring these often overlooked items:

  • Food and Water. This may seem obvious, but many festival-goers rely on the food and water stations in the camp or festival grounds. Go easy on your wallet, and bring enough water and food to last you a few days.
  • Earplugs. The party doesn’t stop at the campgrounds for many festival attendees. If you want a decent night's sleep, bring earplugs for sleeping too.
  • A Sun Shade. This sunshade is meant to go over your tent, or car if you are sleeping in it. You may not think it’s necessary since you will be at the festival most of the time, right? But when the sun is beating down on you at 6:00am in your tent, you will wish you had one.
  • Portable Outdoor Shower. Coachella is dusty, to say the least. Not only that, the shower lines for the campgrounds get ridiculously long at peak times of the day. Bring enough water and a portable shower to to avoid the hassle.
  • A High Capacity Power Bank. One huge mistake many car campers make is charging their phones or other devices with their car batteries. This will drain your car battery by the time the weekend is over and leave you to find someone to give your car a jump when all you want to do is get home. Do yourself a favor and bring a power bank to keep your devices charged at camp.
  • Jumper Cables. Even if you don’t turn your car on to charge your phone and other devices, your battery could still be dead at the end of the weekend. Bring jumper cables just in case you or your camp neighbors needs a jump when leaving for the weekend.
