OnePlus 6 has finally been released recently. Before its arrival, many people assumed the smartphone would have new features. Would it be the first OnePlus waterproof phone? Would it be different from the former OnePlus 5? What is the special point of OnePlus 6 compared to former products? Now every single one of these questions has been answered, and OnePlus 6 is indeed a waterproof product.

What is the waterproof feature and how to use it correctly?

Waterproof smartphones can bring much convenience to your life. For example, when you walk outside on rainy days without an umbrella, you may be anxious about the digital products in your pocket, for most of them are not waterproof and may even stop working when water comes in.

With a waterproof device on hand, such as OnePlus 6, you can even take a beautiful photo of the rain. Besides, waterproofing allows you to take photos under the water or in the sea; you will get more chances to record the beauty of the underwater world. You can also take a bath with your waterproof device to broadcast music, free from worry about the phone’s condition even if it falls into the toilet. There are so many advantages brought by waterproof features, you will never imagine how funny it is to hold a waterproof smartphone in your hand while swimming in the pool until you experience it.

Yet these waterproof features do not mean that every phone with it can be immersed into deep water, there are some standards, namely, IP rates. IP rate is used to define the sealing effectiveness of electrical enclosures against intrusion. It concludes two digits, the first number refers to dust and the highest level is “6”, meaning whole protection. The second digit refers to water protection, and the highest level is “8.”

Also, there are some tips that need to be mentioned while immersing your phone into water.

  • Firstly, you should dry your phone with a towel whenever it gets wet.
  • Secondly, never put your phone into salt water or ionized water. If your phone is immersed into salt water, wash the phone with fresh water and dry them thoroughly with tower.
  • Thirdly, when drying off your phone, you should pat the earpiece, microphone, external speaker and the USB interface connector with the towel to clean as much water as possible.
  • Fourthly, physical damage to your phone will reduce the function of water resistance. When there are chips and cracks on the phone body, you should protect the phone from getting wet.

Most smartphones feature IP rating for water and dust resistance. All of OnePlus’ previous phones don’t have any sort of IP rating, which was disappointing to a lot of consumers. The most common IP ratings are IP67 and IP68, so it’s highly likely that the OnePlus 6 will have one of these water and dust resistance certifications.

IP67 certified devices, like the iPhone 8 and iPhone X, can survive water immersion between 15cm and 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes. Meanwhile, IP68 devices, like the Samsung Galaxy S9 and the LG V30, can survive water immersion up to a maximum depth of 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes.

Are there any other waterproof phones?

There are many outstanding waterproof phones on the market. Such as Samsung Galaxy S9, Huawei P20 Pro,  Samsung Galaxy Note 8, Apple iPhone X,  LG V30,  Samsung Galaxy S8, HTC U11, Apple iPhone 8.

Samsung Galaxy S9 is released on May 21th, 2018 and is regarded as the one of the best phones for 2018. It offers an excellent all-round experience with Samsung expertly blending design, hardware and software to make a phone that will appeal to all kinds of users. Yet its price goes much higher than OnePlus 6—US$ 719.

Huawei P20 Pro is also on the top list of best phones in 2018, released on April 9th, 2018. Its price also is high at £799. Designed with IP 67 water resistant, it can be used freely in the rain.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is a five star product that was released on December 11, 2017. Its price cones at $ 930, a very high price tag. The IP rating of Samsung Galaxy comes at 68, a pretty satisfying digit, which is even higher than the former two.

Overall, the new released OnePlus is a competitive product, not only for its performance, but also for its price and waterproof features.
